So the New Year is finally upon us, the Christmas is finally over and we can now fall back into our old routine of work and telly, while retaining our newly gained weight from the Crimbo binge.

  Oh wait, did you make a resolution to lose weight, to give up cigarettes, or maybe just cut out something that’s bad for you? If you did chances are you have already failed, but don’t worry everyone else failed too, so you can console each other with a pint and a packet of crisps in the pub later.

            What I’m telling you is that people that just target one or two areas that are to be added or extracted from your normal routine is a recipe for failure.  Its been proven again and again and I’m sure you even have your own anecdotal evidence of people who fall off the band wagon.  Think about those people who diet, lose weight and then pile all the weight back on. Think of that friend who was walking everyday but then missed an evening, then two, then three and now they go for an evening drive to the Chinese instead.  I’m sure you can find someone that has done something like this; maybe even you!

            Now your sitting there thinking that it’s hopeless and your just doomed to fail in everything Well no, you are not doomed to fail but what you need to do is to change your attitude to changing and improving your life.  What you need to do is to change your lifestyle completely. When you get up eat a good healthy tasty breakfast, pack a healthy lunch for work. Go exercise after work as something you do… not an added extra.  Once a week fall of the wagon and treat yourself but make it special, for example go out for a dinner and desert, cook something that’s bad for you but really tasty, but make it an event that you enjoy.  When the treat day is over your back on the wagon but make your treat part of this new life style of eating well and exercising regularly.
